Now, a government plane carrying 83 Thais and one Malaysian national, who were all earlier stranded in Laukkaing, is expected to touch down in Thailand.
The team was carefully evacuated by territory from Myanmar to China, where the relocation trip was to pick them up, according to the Royal Thai Embassy in Yangon yesterday.
At 1.40 am this day, the certified Lion Air flight was scheduled to touch down at Don Mueang aircraft.
They will be transported to another location after undergoing immigration to undergo a National Referral Mechanism ( NRM ) investigation to determine which of them are victims of human trafficking and who are among those responsible for the transnational crime.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs ( MFA ) expressed gratitude to everyone involved for pooling resources to assist Thai citizens in need abroad. To assist Thai citizens who are still in the besieged city of Laukkaing in Shan State, northeastern Myanmar, which borders China, the Thai consulate in Yangon will maintain its investigation.
In the meantime, Parnpree Bahiddha-Nukara, the foreign affairs minister, announced yesterday that the MFA may meet with the military today to discuss the escalating conflict in Myanmar and recommendations for managing a sizable number of refugees along the border.
It is likely that more migrants may be displaced in every way, not just Thailand, if the battle situation in Myanmar worsens. We are thinking of ways to engage the opposing parties in a fair discussion to put an end to the crime, said Mr. Parnpree.
