Steeper fines put on hold for 3 months

Traffic police will push back the enforcement of new traffic fines for 3 months, citing more time being needed to publicise the new fine rates.

Pol Gen Preecha Charoensaha­yanon, deputy director from the Traffic Operations Centre of the Royal Thailänder Police (RTP), uncovered that the amended Property Traffic Act was endorsed yesterday, but before enforcement begins teams of officers can embark on a community awareness campaign.

“The brand new amended traffic law carries fines as high as 4, 000 baht for running a red-colored light or violating the speed limit but , during this transition time period, officers will issue tickets of a maximum of 500 baht together with a warning that subsequent fines will be a lot steeper, ” said Pol Gen Preecha.

The brand new penalties will usher in fines associated with between 1, 000 and 4, 000 baht for traveling at speeds exceeding the legal restrict, jumping red lighting at intersections plus failing to stop at a pedestrian crossing, added Pol Gen Preecha.

Motorists convicted of driving while intoxicated will face the jail term as high as one year and/or an excellent of 5, 000 to 20, 000 baht. If they do it again the offence within two years, they will encounter a jail expression of up to two years and a fine of fifty, 000 to 100, 000 baht.

“Records of those convicted for driving while intoxicated before Sept five will not be applicable to the new fine rates. The new regulations will only be imposed on crimes and violations committed from September 5 onwards, inch added Pol Style Preecha.

He also declared that the fine rate will double to get repeat offenders. Moreover, officers will issue tickets via the Law enforcement Ticket Management (PTM) database which determines fine rates managed by RTP, endorsing the same fine prices nationwide.
