South Korea’s Yoon, Malaysia’s Anwar agree to cooperate in defence, minerals

As Malaysia looks to upgrade its air force jets and to increase cooperation in the defense sector, South Korea and Malaysia signed an agreement on Monday ( Nov 25 ).

Yoon’s office noted that the leaders of South Korea and Malaysia also expressed their desire to reach a free trade agreement by the year 2020, which would include more areas like services, investment, and clean energy, according to Yoon’s office.

South Korea invited continued attention from Malaysia as it embarks on a task to remove gentle fighter jets, after a 2023 deal to offer 18 jets valued at US$ 920 million, Yoon’s company said in a statement.

Additionally, the nations agreed to establish a legal framework for climate change cooperation, including a memorandum of understanding regarding a carbon capture and storage initiative, which is expected to start in 2029.

Yoon and Anwar expressed concern about the Middle East conflict’s growing defense cooperation, the humanitarian crises in Gaza, and the violence in Lebanon. &nbsp,
