South Korea’s opposition moves to impeach acting president Han Duck-soo

At the National Assembly, Han’s action was reported to the plenary session as a result of” we filed the movement” and may report it to the council today, according to MP Park Sung-joon.

” We will put it to a voting tomorrow”.

Han’s unwillingness to fully appoint the three judges proves that he “does not have the can or certification to uphold the Constitution”, the Democratic Party’s ground president Park Chan-dae told reporters.

All six present magistrates would need to consent overwhelmingly for Yoon’s removal from office if the jury were to deal with the impeachment process without the extra three judges. Yoon may be reinstated by a single dissident voting.

Han has stated that he would only approve of the magistrates ‘ sessions if the opposition’s decision People Power Party and the criticism reach a settlement on the nominees.

According to Han,” the fundamental tenet that our Constitution and laws encapsulate is to refrain from enacting substantial, unique presidential powers, including the appointment of legal institutions,” is true.

” A compromise between the ruling and opposition parties in the National Assembly, representing the people, must first be reached”, added the 75-year-old career bureaucrat.

In the first instance of a political South Korean acting president being impeached if the opposition approves the senate movement against Han in Friday’s vote.

In Han’s area, Finance Minister Choi Sang-mok may step in as acting president.
