SEOUL: Talks with Northern Korea should not be just for political show but contribute to establishing peace, South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol mentioned on Wednesday (Aug 17), speaking at a press conference in order to mark his very first 100 days in office.
Yoon repeated their calls for North Korea to end its nuclear weapons development and start denuclearisation in exchange with regard to phased economic help.
South Korea was not in a position to guarantee the North’s security if it gave up the nuclear weapons, yet Seoul does not really want forced regime alter in North Korea, he said.
Facing falling vote numbers and controversies over his recommendations for top ministers, Yoon was pressed by media on a selection of issues including labour reform, housing shortages, and recovery through current floods .
He said this individual believed that historical disputes with Japan dating back to its colonial job of the Korean peninsula from 1910 to 1945 can be overcome and that the two countries need to cooperate more closely on supply chain and financial security.
