Somsak Thepsutin, the minister of public health, supported efforts to use seized assets from medication cases to finance the treatment of substance addicts.
Mr. Somsak claimed on Tuesday that he had changed some narcotics regulations, including those relating to asset seizing, when he presided over the Justice Ministry.
He claimed that the previous set of laws regarding asset seizures were too passive, leaving the Office of the Narcotics Control Board’s ( ONCB) narcotic drug fund with only 20 million baht per year when it should have been much more.
” We have to shift from the defensive strategies to emphasize property sequestration and reward tip-offs,” he said.
According to Mr. Somsak, the related industries are working to make sure the law permits the use of the ONCB’s opioid drug fund to assist in the rehabilitation of patients who use severe drugs.
This update to the Public Health Ministerial Policy on Drug Possession Act, which was published in the Royal Gazette on June 17, emphasizes the necessity of encouraging drug users to have treatment.

He claimed that the ministry has expanded its nationwide program to include community-based treatment, rehabilitation, and harm reduction centers ( CBTx ).
He claimed that the roughly 10,000 CBTx facilities have aided addicts and drug users in receiving complete treatment.
