When a hoist collapsed at the building site for a Chinese-run steel mill in the Pluak Daeng city of Rayong on Friday, at least six construction workers were reported dead and several others were hurt.

According to police who were called at around 4.30pm, the incident occurred at the building site of the six-storey Sin Ker Yuan shop in tambon Tasit. Some media outlets reported seven mortality, while Amarin Television reported that 20 staff were injured, but the latter number has not been confirmed.

After migrant workers gathered to desire the shop owner give 5 million baht in payment to the home of each target, save workers rushed to the scene but were unable to take out the bodies of the dead patients and the injured.

Police and protesters were negotiating to help rescue workers to transport the bodies of the dead victims to nearby hospitals.

The precise reason of the collision is unknown.
