The National Fire Agency reported that six people were killed and seven were hurt on Friday ( Feb 14 ) when a blaze ripped through the site of a luxury hotel being constructed in Busan, South Korea.
The fire started just before 11am local time ( 10am, Singapore time ) at the site of the Banyan Tree Hotel, authorities said.
A representative from the National Fire Agency informed AFP that the blaze erupted at the scene that involved around 100 staff.
According to a fire department standard, it is believed to have started on the first surface of the building site where employees had kept the insulation materials.
According to the finance department, acting president Choi Sang-mok directed officials to “fully mobilize all applicable personnel and equipment to extinguish the fire.”
” Every effort must be made to reduce deaths during search and rescue operations, while also ensuring the safety of rescuers”, Choi said.
Around 1.30pm, the blaze was brought under control.
