Six cyclists who rode in unsafe manner on Orchard Road plead guilty, may face probation

On Tuesday ( Nov. 19 ), six young men who were filmed weaving between cars and performing bicycle stunts on Orchard Road admitted to breaking cycling regulations.

Given their children, the jury requested that all of them submit parole suitability reports.

Two riders, who were 17 years old when the crimes occurred in May, are not permitted to be identified under the Children and Young Peoples Act.

The remaining four riders are: &nbsp, Ahmad Noordinie Mohamed Noorshah, 19, Muhammad Irfan Muhamad Noor, 19, Muhaidy Marhady, 20, and Muhammad Aliyul Qadry Mohamad Razak, 20.

A line tip-off that occurred on May 10, 2024, at around 11 p.m. led to the arrest of a group of cyclists on Orchard Road.

The six younger men were a group of nine people who met with bike earlier that night at Bukit Panjang MRT place, according to deputy public prosecutor Huo Jiongrui.

The personalities of the three different members of the group are unknown.

The team traveled to Jurong Pitstop on foot from Bukit Timah Road, Stevens Road, Orchard Road, and Lau Pa Sat, where they dispersed about 4am.

One of the 17-year-olds climbed onto his cellphone and recorded a video of the group while riding along Orchard Road. He sent this movie to Aliyul, who uploaded it to TikTok.

In judge, Mr Huo described the shenanigans captured in the picture. Noordinie performed two wheelies ( riding the bicycle while its front wheel is off-center ), Aliyul ( cycling with both hands off the handlebars ), and various other road users who were in the group.

At one point, Aliyul and a 17-year-old rider rode between fixed vehicles. At the time, the 17-year-old was also recording a movie on his phone.

The party was also seen coming to a stop inside a yellow box at a stop sign, according to the videos.

Aliyul admitted to using a vehicle without a functioning brake, racing without the bars, and moving between stationary vehicles. He also admitted to keeping to the left side of the road.

The 17-year-old who filmed the movie pleaded guilty to all three of his expenses. He admitted to using his phone to record a movie while riding, keeping to the left side of the road, and using it to record a ride in a structured manner while holding his bike instead of the bars.

Each of the other four riders admitted to two counts. On the left side of the road, everyone admitted to cycling ineffectively.

Noordinie also admitted to performing a cartwheel, Irfan to racing with one finger off the bars, the next 17-year-old to overtaking other riders in the next street, and Muhaidy to not wearing a hat.

Each criminal was called to the stand by District Judge Kok Shu En to inquire about whether their families and attorneys were prepared to undergo the probation assessment. All answered well.

Judge Kok asked Muhaidy and the 17-year-old who filmed the movie whether their parents knew they were in court when they claimed their parents were not provide.

Both of them agreed to ensure that their kids were present for their upcoming court appearance on January 9, 2025. The prosecutor must take the parole eligibility reports into account and issue a sentence accordingly.

For failing to walk close to the left edge of the road, an perpetrator can be jailed for up to three months, fined up to S$ 1, 000, or both.

Follow criminals are subject to a double-offering of the fine and jail terms.

The punishments are the same as those for riding in a sane way, using a vehicle without a functioning brake, and not wearing a proper helmet.

For using a wireless communication system while riding, an perpetrator can remain jailed for up to six months, fined up to S$ 1, 000, or both. Punishments are doubled for repeat offenders.
