SingPost sacks three senior executives, including group CEO, over mishandling of whistleblower’s report

SINGAPORE: Singapore Post has fired three of its top managers after a probe into a informant’s report found “grossly negligent” behavior in their management of internal investigations. &nbsp,

As part of disciplinary proceedings, SingPost terminated the employment of its group chief executive officer ( GCEO ) Mr Vincent Phang, group chief financial officer ( GCFO ) Mr Vincent Yik and chief executive of the company’s international business unit ( CEO-IBU) Mr Li Yu. &nbsp,

SingPost announced in an SGX filing on Sunday ( Dec 22 ) that it was looking into the group’s non-regulated international e-commerce logistics parcel business after a whistleblowing report was released earlier this year. &nbsp,

According to the report, the International Business Unit Operations made human entries of a few shipping status rules. These were for global shipping packages that the business had agreed to deliver under a contract with one of its biggest clients.

According to some, these guide entries were made in an effort to avoid legal repercussions under the agreement without any foundation or supporting documentation. &nbsp,

Three directors who had been directly involved in the investigation were the subject of disciplinary proceedings. It was found they had committed major breaches of the agency’s code of conduct, SingPost said.

They have been fired, and a policeman record has been filed against them, it continued.

According to SingPost, a reporting statement on the same subject was also sent to Singapore’s Infocomm Media Development Authority. &nbsp,

Outside professional advisers were hired to evaluate and review the situation individually from management. &nbsp,

SingPost claimed that the three top executives handling of domestic investigations into the whistleblowing reports and the renewal of the relevant agreement was found to be “grossly negligent” in their conduct. &nbsp,

Additionally, they “omitted to take into account fabric details that hampered their decision-making and/or lacked responsibility and reliability.”

Given the severity of these errors and conclusions, SingPost reported that its board has lost faith in the three top executives ‘ judgment and confidence in their ability to carry out their responsibilities to advance and safeguard the company’s interests.

Mr Phang and Mr Yik have indicated that they will “vigorously battle” their dismissal, said SingPost.

Additionally, the business added that post service in Singapore won’t be impacted.
