Singapore’s Smart Nation government group to merge with information ministry’s digital functions

Singapore’s Smart Nation Digital Government Group( SNDGG ) will join forces with the Ministry of Communications and Information ( MCI ) and the & nbsp, digital development divisions, to create a larger Smart Nations group.

The merger, according to a joint statement released on Tuesday( Sep 12 ),” will better position the government to advance the full range of the digital agenda.”

The Smart Nation and Digital Government Office, as well as its implementing arm, the Government Technology Agency( GovTech ), are collectively referred to as SNDGG.

SNDGG is in charge of Singapore’s Smart Nation approach, the digitization of public services, and the creation and use of modern technologies and capabilities.

MCI oversees the development of the digital economy, online facility and addition, restriction of modern equipment and data, online regulation, and digital and cyber security in addition to overseeing the government’s information policy and public communications.

According to the joint statement, & nbsp, SNDGG, and MCI have already been collaborating closely on government and national digital strategies.

The new, expanded Smart Nation group will be run by MCI and be a part of the Prime Minister’s Office, according to & nbsp, the authorities.

The merger will take place gradually, with & nbsp, MCI beginning management of the group on September 23.

Then, neither the holders of political office nor the legal boards and agencies under SNDGG and MCI may change in their status or organizational structures.

Mrs. Josephine Teo may continue to hold the positions of Minister for Communications and Information and Minister-in-Charge of Smart Nation and Cybersecurity.

Dr. Janil Puthucheary and Mr. Tan Kiat How will continue to serve as Senior Ministers of State for Communications and Information, with Dr & nbsp. Putchucherary continuing in his capacity as Minister-in-Charge of GovTech.

Additionally, meetings to organizations under MCI’s jurisdiction, such as the Infocomm Media Development Authority, Singapore Cyber Security Agency, and Singapore National Library Board, won’t change.
