“When I actually reached 50, I couldn’t find clothes I felt comfortable in. I didn’t want to wear clothing that my mother used to wear when she was 50 years of age. At the end of the day, I just got stuck with like pants and a T-shirt. I used to be lost, I couldn’t find clothes that will suited me, was age-appropriate and yet fashionable. The choices for people associated with my age group are honestly very limited in the local fashion scene, ” said Ong, whenever asked for her ideas on fashion choices for older consumers.
Ho revealed that her customers also provide the same issue. “There are a lot of ladies in their 40s and 50s who always tell us they can not find trendy clothing and that they wish there were more brands providing to them. They do not want to dress such as they’re 50 even though they’re 50, ” she shared.
It’s also a ridiculous assumption, of course , that one should abandon her sense of style as she approaches the girl golden years. Ong herself is residing proof that the woman can still gown stylishly and yet age-appropriately no matter how old she actually is.
“I believe that it’s partly a consequence of judgement we face from people close to us, and the anxiety about that judgement. We all tend to tell ourselves ‘oh, we should not dress that way due to the fact people will discuss me’. Then again, we are also the ones that are placing that exact same judgment on yourself – like ‘I shouldn’t wear this, it’s too young for me’… We need to get out of that mindset – why should we all let society determine what we should or should not wear? ” said Ong.
