Singapore’s Max Maeder wins Asian kitefoiling title in China

SINGAPORE: &nbsp, Olympic medallist&nbsp, Max Maeder won the 2024 Formula Kite Asian Championships in Daishan, China on Sunday ( Sep 22 ), his second title in as many competitions since the Paris Games.

Maeder won eight of the twelve races earlier in the week before the contest was postponed due to a storms hitting the area prior to the competitors.

The&nbsp, International Kiteboarding Association, said on Instagram that the gusts were too powerful for racing on Sunday.

This meant that the Singaporean would win the title and the prize line would not be up for grabs. In the final competition round of 2023, Materei placed following.

Earlier this month, the 17-year-old won the Hungarian leg of the IKA KiteFoil World Series.

Last month, Maeder won OIympic copper at the Marseille Marina, &nbsp, ending Singapore’s eight-year wait for an Olympic floor finish since diver Joseph Schooling won gold in 2016. &nbsp,

Maeder likewise became Singapore’s youngest Olympian medallist. Bontus won silver, while Slovenia’s Toni Vodisek took magic.
