SINGAPORE: Feng Tianwei and Zeng Jian won Singapore’s third table tennis gold medal of the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham on Monday (Aug 8) with victory in the women’s doubles final.
Opponents in the women’s singles final on Sunday, Feng and Zeng combined to beat their Australian rivals Jee Minhyung and Lay Jian Fang 3-0.
The Singaporean pair raced through the first game, winning 11-1, before winning the closer second game 11-8.
They quickly moved into the lead in the third game and never looked back as they closed it out 11-8.
The result means that Feng has had a hand in all three of Singapore’s table tennis golds in Birmingham, adding the doubles crown to her singles and team golds.
Earlier on Monday, Singapore’s Wong Xin Ru and Zhou Jingyi missed out on the women’s doubles bronze after they fell to a 3-1 defeat against Charlotte Carey and Anna Hursey of Wales.
Feng and Zeng’s gold is Singapore’s fourth overall at this year’s games, coming shortly after Terry Hee and Jessica Tan took home the badminton mixed doubles title.
