Singapore welcomes Gaza ceasefire, intends to send more aid: PM Wong

Prime Minister Lawrence Wong stated on Friday ( Jan 17 ), shortly before the deal was expected to be ratified, that Singapore welcomes the ceasefire and hostage return agreement between Israel and Hamas.

In a delayed Friday Facebook post, Mr. Wong wrote,” There has been too much damage and suffering over the past 15 times.”

” While this is just the first step, we hope the deal will be completely implemented, to ensure the continuous cessation of hostilities, and the transfer of all captives”, he said.

” In certain, we need to immediately put an end to the catastrophic humanitarian crises in Gaza, where problems continue to deteriorate”.

A six-week primary ceasefire was stipulated in the agreement, which included the release of Arab prisoners held by Israel in exchange for hostages taken by the militant group Hamas.

The peace agreement opens the door for more humanitarian aid, besides the launch of hostages and Israeli prisoners.

The last approval of the agreement, which Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu claimed was scheduled to take effect on Sunday, was to be scheduled for Friday’s cabinet meeting.

Following Minister for Foreign Affairs Mohamad Maliki Osman may travel to Jordan to provide a check to a charity organization, according to Singapore Foreign Affairs Minister Vivian Balakrishnan, who announced on Thursday that Singapore would send additional humanitarian aid to the Palestinians. &nbsp,

” In the coming months, we intend to send more humanitarian supplies. He said on Friday that Singapore will continue to do everything in its power to help charitable efforts in Gaza.

Mr. Wong added that Singapore continues to steadfastly support a two-state negotiated settlement that is in line with appropriate UN Security Council commitments.

” Both Israelis and Palestinians deserve to live as permanent neighborhood in harmony, stability, and dignity”, he said.
