The ceasefire agreement between Israel and Lebanon was welcomed in Singapore on Wednesday ( Nov 27 ), which is seen as a positive first step toward restoring regional stability.
” We hope that all parties will respect and comply with the terms of the agreement”, said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs ( MFA ) in a statement.
The settlement may make it easier for residents to return to their homes on Israeli-Lebanon border crossings.
Following Israel’s attack on October 7, 2023, the Palestinian militant team launched cross-border strikes to support its Arab ally Hamas.
Under the peace deal,  , which took effect in the early days of Wednesday night,  , Israel may eventually withdraw its troops over 60 days from southwestern Lebanon, which it invaded about two months ago.
Hezbollah did likewise abandon its military reputation there and begin its march northwest of the Litani River, which is located about 30 kilometers northwest of Israel’s border.
According to incoming US President Joe Biden, Lebanon’s troops will retake control of the territory close to Israel’s frontier to prevent Hezbollah, which is supported by Iran.
After the 60-day departure time, ongoing border problems may be reopened.
Israel is still carrying out its offensives against Hamas in Gaza as it tries to free Jewish victims who were kidnapped by the Palestinian militant team a year ago.
” Singapore reiterates its contact for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, as well as for the instant, safe, and absolute discharge of all existing hostages”, said MFA.
We also need all parties to allow the Gaza civilians who are impacted by the humanitarian crisis to receive serious, secure, and unrestrained aid.
