Singapore table tennis player Zhou Jingyi books spot at Paris 2024 Olympics

SINGAPORE: National table tennis person Zhou Jingyi has booked her position at the 2024 Paris Olympics, joining teammates&nbsp, Izaac Quek and Zeng Jian&nbsp, at the Jul 26 to Aug 11 showpiece event. &nbsp, &nbsp,

She qualified for the Paris Games thanks to her Asian ranking, and at 19 years old, Zhou is the youngest Singapore-born female table tennis player to do so, according to the Singapore Table Tennis Association, which released a statement on Wednesday ( 12 June ).

The girl, who just made her debut two years ago at the 2022 Hanoi SEA Games, will also be the&nbsp, second Singapore- born women stand tennis player to take part in the singles competition. &nbsp,

Zhou, who is the next Singapore-born woman athlete to qualify for the Olympics after Tan Paey Fern in 2004, said:” Over the past year, we’ve traveled extensively around the world preparing for the Olympics. It was both physically and mentally arduous, especially with an harm”.

” Nevertheless, I was able to improve considerably thanks to the several competition opportunities”.

Zhou will be playing on the biggest step yet, but the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games gold medalist in the group celebration is unconvinced by this.

She said,” It has been my goal since day one, so ineligible for the Olympics is extremely important to me.”

” My plan for the Olympics is to concentrate on each match and gain knowledge and exposure on this special stage. I want to view my matches as any other opposition does, and I want to perform to the best of my ability.

After winning their respective singles championships at the South Eastern Regional Qualification Tournament in Bangkok, Quek and Zeng will compete alongside her in Paris. &nbsp,
