Singapore sprint queen Shanti Pereira to compete in 100m at Paris Olympics

SINGAPORE: Shanti Pereira, the reigning champion of Singapore’s sprinting, will thrive in the women’s 100-meter event at the Paris Olympics after qualifying through her world rating.

Pereira, who will also be one of Singapore’s two flag bearers alongside soldier Ryan Lo, had recently qualified for the 200m by meeting the Olympic entry normal.

The Asian Games gold medalist is 42nd in the Race to Paris rankings in the 100m event, with the top 56 qualifying, according to a list from World Athletics ( WA ).

Certification for the Games is based on a double road, with sports qualifying through entry requirements as well as world rankings.

The passage standard for the children’s 100m is 11.07s, while Pereira’s regional history stands at 11.20s.

Olympians may even engage at the Games by securing a unity position from WA. It was earlier this week that Singapore men’s runner Marc Brian Louis was given a position in the Olympic competition and that he would also represent Singapore.
