Singapore Red Cross sends additional humanitarian aid worth S0,000 to Myanmar earthquake survivors

The Singapore Red Cross ( SRC ) announced in a news release on Thursday ( Apr 10 ) that it has distributed an additional tranche of humanitarian aid to the communities in Myanmar that were severely affected by the earthquake last month.

The most recent package includes items like mosquito nets, cheap mats, plastic containers for fresh water series and storage, and women’s cleanliness kits for families.

About 8, 000 families in the affected areas are expected to receive the supplies, according to SRC.

In order to improve access to clean drinking water in areas like Mandalay and Sagaing, the organization distributed almost 900 solar-powered lights to help populations without electricity.

” Together, these contributions are worth an estimated S$ 550, 000 ( US$ 410, 000 ), and are expected to benefit around 80, 000 persons”, SRC said.

More than 3, 000 people were killed in Myanmar as a result of the strong 7.7-magnitude earthquake that struck the nation on March 28 and spasms felt hundreds of kilometers away in Bangkok, Thailand.

More than a million people have been injured, and thousands are also missing. Help efforts have been hampered by heavy rains, destroyed infrastructure, and a persistent civil war.

A three-person staff, made up of two Library staff users and one volunteer, is currently in Yangon to assess the situation and arrange more relief efforts, according to SRC.

The team is also collaborating closely with the International Committee of the Red Cross ( ICRC ), the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies ( IFRC ), and the Myanmar Red Cross ( MRC ) to identify urgent needs and determine how SRC can best assist the affected communities.
