Singapore public-private body to come up with recommendations on better integrating foreign professionals

Earlier this year, &nbsp, Senior Minister Lee Hsien Loong said that Singapore should support immigrants and international staff adapt to the country’s cultural norms to create a unified and diverse culture.

Mr Lee noted that the issue of refugees and international workers raises “political differences in some societies”.

However, he said that” Singapore relies heavily on them to top up ( its ) population base and talent pool”.

” Consequently, we must manage the outflow and connectivity of&nbsp, new visitors with the utmost awareness and precaution, to ensure that the moves are balanced and sustainable”, he added.

Initial recommendations so far include stronger support for international professionals to incorporate beyond the work, such as through commercial working or arrangement programmes that introduce them to “local norms”, said MCCY.

” The engagements also emphasised the need for corporates to have ( human resources ) &nbsp, practices that assure all employees of equal opportunities, and to develop the competencies to foster integration”, added the ministry.

” Regional employers are committed to good, equal opportunity hiring, they want to better connect people and foster positive relations in organizations”, added Mr Tan.

” Foreign experts also want to adjust to Singapore’s social norms and establish relationships with their local colleagues”.
