Dr. Toh Tai Chong, a senior lecturer at the Reef Ecology Lab at the National University of Singapore, even questioned whether increased boat traffic may cause a disruption to the area’s waters movement.
” Even the structures that we install, will ( they ) change the hydrodynamics? Because of this, Raffles Lighthouse’s coastal eggs are affected, he said.
The castle is a” fall site,” which refers to coral eggs that emerge from numerous islands in Singapore and establish themselves there.
This, according to Dr. Toh, accounts for the country’s large coral variety and the presence of rare species that are not frequently found elsewhere.
Even though the immediate impact may be minimal, he continued, adding that quite indirect impact may last beyond the construction phase.
He added that solar panels can reduce the amount of light that enters the ocean, which may cause reefs to be more stressed because they rely on sunlight.
Coral reefs serve as both a refuge for smaller animals and crucial food resources for larger pets.
” For turtles, they tend to have particular fixed habits of migratory routes and also to lay eggs, so this has to be considered. In this specific location, more research needs to be done to identify these potential migration routes, said Dr. Toh.
