Singapore leaders send condolence letters to Palestinian counterparts after Gaza hospital blast

Singapore’s Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, President Tharman Shanmugaratnam, and Foreign Affairs Minister Vivian Balakrishnan sent letters of condolence to their Israeli rivals on Wednesday, October 18, following an explosion at a clinic in Gaza.

The Al-Ahli al Arabi Hospital explosion on Tuesday, which was the bloodiest one incident in Gaza during the ongoing Israel-Has issue, resulted in the deaths of thousands of Palestinians.

In a letter to Israeli Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh, Mr. Lee expressed his deep sorrow over the appalling humanitarian position in the Gaza Strip and the tragic death toll at the Ahli Arab Hospital on October 17, 2023.

” On behalf of the Singaporean state, I extend our sincere condolences to the bereaved families.”

Mr. Lee continued,” Singapore hopes that all parties involved may abide by international humanitarian law and exert every effort to ensure the security and safety of citizens.”

In response to the deteriorating charitable position in the Gaza Strip, Mr. Lee furthermore informed Dr. Shtayyeh in his notice that the Singapore government had donated$ 300,000( US$ 288,000 ) to humanitarian assistance.

Mr. Tharman expressed his” deep concern by the severe humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip and the enormous loss of life and enduring dealt on honest civilians” in a letter to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.

According to him,” these have resulted from Israeli military activities in response to the attacks by Hamas on Israel on October 7.”

” On behalf of the Singaporean persons, I extend our sincere condolences to the injured and the bereaved families.”

Singapore urges all parties to exert every effort to safeguard civilians’ safety and security, uphold international humanitarian law, and facilitate the prompt delivery of assistance to the Gaza Strip’s affected civilian population.

Dr. Balakrishnan stated in his letter to Riad Al Malki, the Palestinian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates & nbsp, that he was” extremely saddened by the increasing civilian toll in the Gaza Strip” and the loss of lives following the hospital blast.

He offered the affected communities his sincere apologies.

He wrote,” I am also very worried about the increasingly dire humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip.

” The Singapore state, the Singapore Red Cross, and the citizens of Singapore are raising money to support Gaza’s charitable needs.”

We also support calling for immediate humanitarian aid to be provided to the Gaza Strip on a global scale.
