Singapore invited as guest country by South Africa for 2025 G20 meetings

SINGAPORE: Singapore has been invited by South Africa as a host region to join in G20 discussions under its 2025 G20 president.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs ( MFA ) stated in a statement on Tuesday ( Dec 3 ) that Singapore would like to thank South Africa for the invitation.

” Singapore and South Africa enjoy a longtime and broad-based relationship, underpinned by strong people-to-people relationships. &nbsp,

” Our two nations cooperate also in different areas, including trade and investment, heat communication, information and communications technologies and skills advancement,” said MFA. &nbsp,

Singapore is certainly a part of the G20, which comprises 19 countries, the European Union and the African Union. However, it has been often invited to take part in the team’s meetings.

Prime Minister Lawrence Wong was in Brazil from Nov 17 to Nov 20 for this year’s G20 Summit&nbsp, at the offer of Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula de Silva. Brazil now holds the G20 administration.

Singapore will continue to actively participate in the G20 approach, according to MFA, both in its domestic capacity and as the Global Governance Group chairman.

Singapore looks forward to working effectively with the North American G20 Presidency and another G20 people and customers on South Africa’s style of” Solidarity, Equality, Sustainability”, MFA said.

This is in order to, among other things, improve and enhance our shared efforts to achieve the agreement of the future, enhance inclusive economic development, food security, and promote artificial knowledge and innovation for sustainable development.
