Singapore and Australia sign agreement to help combat scams and spam

SINGAPORE: Singapore plus Australia have signed an agreement for enhanced cooperation to combat scams and junk mail.

Singapore’s Infocomm Media Growth Authority (IMDA) and the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on Monday (Jul 18), the organizations said in a joint statement on Thursday night.

The MOU covers cooperation in key areas like information sharing and assistance in inspections relating to scams, junk mail calls and brief message services.

They also agreed to exchanges of knowledge, expertise and collaboration on technical and commercially practical solutions in relation to fraud and spam marketing communications.

“Scam plus unsolicited commercial digital messages and phone calls are an international problem with scammers continuing to prey on unsuspecting plus innocent parties, inch said the mutual statement.

“Both Singapore and Australia recognise the importance of developing a global and matched approach to address these types of threats and for various stakeholders to work collectively. ”

The particular agreement was signed by the chief executive of IMDA Lew Chuen Hong and the seat of ACMA Nerida O’ Loughlin.

The MOU was created in connection with the Australia-Singapore Digital Economy Contract, as well as the joint announcement by the prime ministers of Australia plus Singapore on a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership’s objective to deepen bilateral relations and assistance, as well as enhance the incorporation of the economies of Australia and Singapore.
