Shohei Ohtani became the first person to hit 50 home runs and take 50 bases in a single year, making it baseball background.

In the first inning of his career against the Miami Marlins, the Los Angeles Dodgers singer hit the second pitch.

In the fifth inning, he therefore recorded his 51st steal before striking the team’s 49th house run of the season, breaking Shawn Green’s record for the most home runs in a season set in 2001.

Ohtani then added 50 home runs in the following game for the first time in the history to hit the 50-50-hit mark.

The 30-year-old Japanese player joined the Dodgers on a 10-year$ 700m ( £527m ) contract in December- the biggest deal in the sport’s history- which made him one of the highest-earning athletes in the world.
