Shehbaz Sharif was elected as Pakistan’s prime minister on Sunday ( Mar 3 ) for the second time, presiding over a fragile alliance that has outlawed supporters of Imran Khan, the jailed opposition leader.
Three days after federal elections were marred by common claims of rigging, just sworn-in Pakistani lawmakers in the National Assembly elected Sharif with 201 votes.
According to recently appointed speech of the National Assembly, Sardar Ayaz Sadiq,” Shehbaz Sharif has been declared to have been elected as perfect secretary of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.”
Omar Ayub Khan won 92 seats in opposition to Sharif as the preferred choice for Khan-loving MPs.
To keep Khan’s candidates out, the Sharif family’s Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz ( PML-N) party teamed up with their historical rivals, the Pakistan Peoples Party ( PPP ), as well as a number of smaller groups.
Asif Ali Zardari, Bhutto’s man, has received a gift from the PPP, a royal party led by the family of the murdered ex-prime minister Benazir Bhutto.
His Pakistan Tehreek e-Insaf ( PTI ) party was targeted by a string of arrests and censorship while former prime minister Khan was imprisoned in the run-up to the February 8 elections and barred from contesting.
Despite being forced to run as politicians, PTI individuals managed to win more seats than any other group.
Of the numbers required to form a government, which opened the door for Sharif’s returning, they were small, though.
