Shares of China brewer Tsingtao dip after worker filmed urinating in tank

BEIJING: A picture that allegedly showed a contractor urinating into an ingredient box went viral, and top Chinese beermaker Tsingtao reiterated on Monday( Oct 23) that it had called the police and taken precautions to prevent leakage.

In early Monday trade, the Shanghai-listed company’s shares dropped as much as 7.5 percent, & nbsp, before recovering to close down 0.37 percent.

Tens of thousands of views have been posted on China’s blogging page Weibo since the video, which depicted a storehouse worker in blue overalls and golden hat urinating on the contents, debuted last Thursday and raised questions about food safety among online users.

Reuters was unable to confirm the video’s veracity.

” Has he ever had this behavior of urinating into fresh materials before?” asked the person who was being filmed and posted online. A consumer made a comment.

Another person remarked,” The issue is how to reassure the public that the organic materials for the current beer are not contaminated.”

Tsingtao Brewery stated in a registration to the Shanghai stock exchange that the incident” attaches great importance” and that security officials were looking into it at the time.

Tsingtao added that the company’s creation and operation went on as usual and that” the mass of grain in question is absolutely sealed.”
