Shanti Pereira equals 200m national record but fails to progress to Commonwealth Games final

SINGAPORE:   Sprinter Shanti Pereira  failed to qualify for the  ladies 200m final in the  Commonwealth Games  on Friday (Aug 5).

She clocked 23. 46s in the semi-final, equalling the Singapore national record, which usually she  established on  Thursday during the 200m heats .

Pereira  finished fifth in a competition that was won simply by Nigerian Favour Ofili with a time of 22. 66s.

The very best two finishers of the three semi-finals, along with the next two quickest runners across the competitions, make up the field meant for the  women’s 200m final, which will be kept on Saturday.

Earlier this year, Pereira  won gold in the ladies 200m  at the 31st Southeast Asian Online games,   setting a brand new national record having a time of 23. 52s.

On Tuesday, Pereira also arranged a new national report in the 100m heats at the 2022 Commonwealth Games.
