Following a number of reports of inappropriate behavior, those who commit sexual abuse on the main road transportation system in the Jakarta urban area will now be subject to a lifetime ban from the trains.  ,
Railway business Kereta Commuter Indonesia (KCI) is even considering increasing the number of female-only cars.  ,
In a bid to combat sexual harassment on the Greater Jakarta commuter rail, known as the KRL Commuter Line Jabodetabek, KCI announced on Sunday ( Sep 8 ) that the perpetrators would be placed on the blacklist.
The term “jabodetabek” refers to Jakarta and the nearby Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, and Bekasi, two nearby cities.
More than 1.1 million passengers use the system each day to go an area with a 32 million population, including the town of Jakarta and its nearby suburbs.
According to KCI’s files, from January to August 2024, officers responded to 30 physical abuse cases both at the place and on the trains.
In contrast, 13 studies were received via social media in the same time.
In the most recent case, a man discovered in July of 2024 with seven mobile phone videos of the victim who was being taken on the Bogor-Jakarta Kota course.
A KCI member said on Sunday that the firm sanction is anticipated to deter other sexual harassment perpetrators and stop similar incidents from occurring in the future.
” The suspect’s data may be monitored through our Video insights system”, said KCI VP business director Joni Martinus, as quoted by local journalist Liputan 6.
Therefore, because it has been recorded in our control center, the perpetrator wo n’t be able to board the KRL once more, he added.
KCI’s operations and marketing producer Broer Rizal disclosed to Antara news agency on Sunday that the company has installed 762 security devices spread across 82 facilities throughout the rail system.
Additionally, Mr. Joni urged victims and witnesses of sexual abuse to press charges against the perpetrators.
” If there is a record, we can predict and assault the offenders to finally take further action”, he said.
KCI is even considering the possibility of reducing the number of specific women’s carriages (KKW) from the recent two per teach, which may require changes to the train’s composition, Mr. Joni continued.
In a statement to the local internet store Disway, he said,” The KKW vehicles are already at the very front and back of the train, and we will continue to examine this.”
