Temasek-backed Sembcorp Industries on Monday ( Aug 12 ) temporarily suspended operations at its Sembcorp , Myingyan Independent Power Plant in Mandalay, Myanmar.
The decision came in response to escalating legal turmoil in the region, including in the Myingyan town, where the 225-megawatt gas-fired power plant is located.
According to media reports from Myanmar’s military state, the state of emergency in the nation was set to last for another six months in July.
The state is still battling an armed uprising and a volatile market while also facing growing counterresponse.
In a statement, the Singapore-based business stated that” Sembcorp may appear to begin operations at the flower as soon as fairly practicable once conditions are stable.”
The business is backed by funding company Temasek, which is owned by the Singapore authorities.
Separately, Japan’s Unicharm announced that it would stop increasing the capital expenditure for its Myanmar system due to restrictions on foreign currency payments and other difficult business conditions there.
