SDP issued POFMA order for making false statements about case of 3 women charged with organising march to Istana

After making false statements about the case of three women accused of organizing a procession along the Istana without a permit, the Singapore Democratic Party ( SDP ) received a request to publish a correction notice on its social media posts. &nbsp,

The three girls allegedly organized the march on February 2 in support of the Palestinian cause.

They were charged on Jun 27 with open get crimes. &nbsp,

The Ministry of Home Affairs ( MHA ) made a press release on Saturday ( Jun 29 ) announcing that the three women were facing charges under Section 15 ( 1 ) of the Public Order Act 2009 for organizing a procession in a prohibited area.

The Istana, the standard office of the president, is a prohibited place.

The SDP’s articles made false claims that the three women were in fact responsible for organizing Arab people’s help, according to MHA.

” Any person who holds a public meeting or parade in a designated prohibited area may have committed an crime, regardless of the cause or topic they are advocating for. The Parliament House and the Supreme Court are also considered security-sensitive locations, as are the other prohibited places.

The government also refrained from the SDP’s assertions that the state should prosecute the three women because they had voiced opinions that the government disagreed with, especially from the Law and Home Affairs Minister. &nbsp,

The three women’s charges were not based on the opinions they had, nor was it dependent on whether these opinions aligned with the government’s. The charges problem the structuring of the illegal parade, in and of itself”, said MHA.

It added that the decision to charge the people was hardly made by Mr Shanmugam but by the Attorney- General’s Chambers, after its assessment of the officer’s research.

” The chancellor does not make decisions relating to legal trials”, it stressed.

” The government takes a critical view of the intentional dissemination of false information.”
