Scoot cancels some flights between Singapore and East Malaysia after eruption of Indonesia's Ruang volcano

Following numerous volcano eruptions in Indonesia, budget airline Scoot on Thursday ( Apr 18 ) canceled four flights between Singapore and East Malaysia as a safety precaution.

Mount Ruang  started erupting on Tuesday evening  and sent  a dust cloud that travelled more than a mile into the sky, causing Indonesian authorities to remove thousands of people and close Manado town on Sulawesi island’s closest international airport.

Scoot, the low-cost subsidiary of Singapore Airlines ( SIA ), said it had cancelled Thursday ’s flights for TR490 and TR491, which fly between Singapore and Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, four times a week.

It also delayed Thursday ’s planes for TR414 and TR415, which fly between Singapore and Sarawak’s Miri twice a month.

“Scoot is assisting to reaccommodate affected clients onto following airlines, where available, ” said the airport.

If a customer chooses not to proceed on their travel, they may also obtain a full refund. ”

Additionally, another regional carriers were impacted.

For example, Malaysia Airlines said on Twitter that nearly 20 planes between Kuala Lumpur, Sabah and Sarawak on Thursday were cancelled.

For budget airport AirAsia, airlines to and from nine flights including Kota Kinabalu, Miri, Kuching and Brunei were cancelled, the flight said in a news release on Thursday.
