KANCHANABURI: The female director of a school had been found dead inside a car submerged in an irrigation canal in Tha Muang region on Saturday, police said.
Pol Capt Narong Khamsunthorn, an detective at Tha Muang police station, mentioned the dead girl was identified as Nipaporn Wongwilai, 45, director of Ban Nong Ya Plong School in tambon Chorakhae Phuak in Lalu Makham Tia region.
Her car, a whitened Honda, was discovered submerged in the irrigation canal near Prohibit Nong Ko, the Moo 4 community in tambon Khao Noy of Tha Muang district..
The lookup by divers from a rescue unit began at about 8am upon Saturday after local residents found front side bumper and licence plate No 3414 of a car, registered in Kanchanaburi, by side of the water sources canal. They suspected the car had slid off the road and stepped into the canal.
At about 6pm, the divers discovered the car in the water under Nong Ko bridge, about five hundred metres from where the bumper was spotted.
Nipaporn’s body was present in the driver’s chair, the safety belt fastened.
Police and a physician from the His Holiness the 19th Hospital soon arrived at the scene for an exam. The body was sent to the hospital for an autopsy.
Based on a police analysis, on Friday night Nipaporn went to the restaurant to ensure its readiness for a workshop before driving house along the irrigation channel.
An investigation was nevertheless underway to establish the reason for the accident.
