SCDF officer to be charged over NSF firefighter’s death after Henderson Road fire

SINGAPORE: According to the police, a 38-year-old Singapore Civil Defence Force ( SCDF) officer will be charged on Monday( Oct. 16 ) with the death of 19 years old full-time national serviceman( NSF ) Edward H. Go.

On December 8, 2022, Sergeant 1 ( SGT1 ) Go lost consciousness while performing a firefighting operation at Block 91 Henderson Road. He later passed away in the hospital.

The 19-year-old fire died in an SCDF activity for the first time.

The police looked into the circumstances and facts that led to SGT1 Go’s suicide after the event.

According to the police, the SCDF policeman, who was SGT1 Go’s better, allegedly left him alone in the casing system to put out the fire without telling anyone, which went against the organization’S fire policy.

According to the examination, SGT1 Go’s cause of death was” asphyxiation due to depleted heat cylinder.”

According to the police,” the investigations did not turn up any evidence to suggest that( SGT1 Go’s ) death was caused by equipment failure.”

The police will accuse the SCDF commander of causing serious harm by acting hastily and endangering the lives or personal safety of people after consulting with the Attorney General’s Chambers.

If found guilty, he could receive a sentence of up to four years in prison, an S$ 10,000 ( US$ 7, 300 ) fine, or both.

A second officer, who reportedly failed to ensure the overall health of the fire procedure when he arrived and assumed command and control over the incident, is being investigated, according to the SCDF.
