MANILA: Her communications team announced on Monday ( Apr 7 ) that impeached Philippine Vice President Sara Duterte has returned home after spending nearly a month at her father’s side in The Hague, where he is facing a charge of crimes against humanity.
She claimed that she had filed the “last file” necessary at the International Criminal Court and that past Philippine leader Rodrigo Duterte’s legitimate team was now established.
The vice president continued, noting that the family no longer plans to apply for financial assistance to help pay for her husband’s defense. She said,” We will do that if we need to ( sell ) things to support our financial needs.”
Rodrigo Duterte was detained on March 11 and taken to a Dutch court the following day to experience drug-related charges relating to his assassination of thousands of mostly poor men.
Sara, her daughter, soon followed him to The Hague, where she had been coordinating his constitutional matters and serving as his spokesperson, holding numerous press events outside the courthouse.
According to her communications staff, she landed at Manila’s global airport on Sunday nights.
The vice president makes her mother’s PDP Laban party’s polls sluggish ahead of the midterm elections in May that will decide 12 Senate chairs and thousands of smaller positions in the 117-million-strong mainland country.
