A person has been detained by police in Mumbai, India, in connection with a razor assault that happened last week against Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan.
Khan, one of India’s biggest stars, was stabbed by an intruder at his home, in an attack that shocked the country. He is recovering after surgery.
On Sunday, authorities said they had arrested the important think, Mohammad Shariful Islam Shehzad, adding that he was a member of Bangladesh who was staying in India improperly.
Mr Shehzad’s prosecutor has denied the allegations and says he is not from Bangladesh.
According to authorities, Mr. Shehzad was detained from Thane, a city on the fringes of Mumbai.
According to preliminary data, Dixit Gedam, a deputy director of Mumbai policeman, said he was visiting the city about six months ago and had been working there for a while while using a false title and ID.
According to Mr. Gedam, authorities believe Mr. Shehzad allegedly broke into Khan’s residence with the intention of robbing him.
On Sunday, a judge in Mumbai sent Mr Shehzad to five-day authorities prison.
His lawyer, Sandeep Shikhane, told reporters that his client was being made a “scapegoat”.
” There is no video evidence to suggest he is a Bangladeshi citizen”, he said.
The attack on Khan has caused stories in the media and raised concerns about security and safety in Mumbai, one of India’s most crowded towns and its financial hub.
Khan was stabbed six times and suffered many injuries, including one on the back of his neck, in the assault at his apartment in an upmarket village.
A nurse who works in Khan’s house, Eliyama Philip, reported to the authorities last week that she first noticed a man’s dark near the bathroom door while with the maid in the child’s room at night.
Ms. Philip reported that a man appeared, apprehending to hold a long knife in one hand and a sturdy object in another, and urging them to refrain from noise. He demanded 10m rupees ($ 115, 477, £94, 511 ), she said.
A fight broke out, during which Ms Philip was injured. She added that the intruder struck the artist with a knife before fleeing after hearing the noise, Khan and his wife rushed to the scene.
On Friday, investigators reportedly detained – and later released – at least five other people for questioning in connection with the investigation.
Many of the people were detained because they resembled the intruder, who was filmed on CCTV cameras as he exited the building.
