S.Korea fines Google, Meta over accusations of privacy law violations

SEOUL (Reuters) -South Korea levied fines on Alphabet’s Google and Meta Platforms over claims of privacy legislation violations, the nation’s Personal Information Protection Payment said on Wednesday.

The commission fined Google 69. two billion won ($49. 8 million) plus Meta 30. 8 billion won, it said in a declaration.

Google and Meta did not clearly notify service users and get prior consent whenever collecting and analysing users’ behavioral information to infer their own interests or make use of them for customised ads, the commission stated.
