SEOL: On Thursday ( Jan 2 ), rival camps of South Korean protesters fought in obscene scenes outside the presidential compound, some attempting to apprehend the impeached president inside from arrest, while others called for his immediate detention.
The government impeached Yoon Suk Yeol last month over his disastrous military legislation declaration, and authorities are now threatening to kill him before Monday.
But lots of Yoon’s die-hard followers, including far-right YouTube personalities and evangelical Christian officials, gathered outside his substance in Seoul, facing off with the anti-Yoon tent and mob officers.
When officers attempted to move them, another woman threw herself in front of a police vehicle and spread her wings across the car, while another Yoon followers lay down in the street with their eyes closed and their arms crossed in front of them.
One activist, Park Shi-dong, 74, told AFP he was there to “fight to the death to protect liberal democracy”, saying Yoon’s implementation of martial law was justified and he should never be removed from office.
” Impeachment invalid” the protest yelled as they waved North Korean colors and dark lightsticks.
” Yoon Suk Yeol, Yoon Suk Yeol, we protect! We protect”! they yelled.
AFP writers witnessed dozens of people live-streaming the demonstrations on YouTube channels.
