RID to fill reservoir to offset El Nino effect

RAYONG: In preparation for a potential worsening dry spell in the Eastern region this month, the Royal Irrigation Department ( RID ) intends to fill the Prasae Reservoir with water.

The office claims that the region’s drought situation has not changed. As a result, Praphit Chanma, the director-general of RID, discussed the best course of action with the local Royal Irrigation Offices at the source.

According to Mr. Prait, the El Nino climate trend could result in a dry magic from the middle of this month to mid-July, which may cause water shortages and an escalating drought.

Local water officials had been given the go-ahead to develop a strategy to stop the situation from affecting liquid production for both industrial and consumer use prior to the meeting, he claimed.

He pointed out that the Eastern Economic Corridor requires 1.2 million square meters of water daily.

To keep more waters for the drought, we insisted that they stick to their water diversion plans, Mr. Prait said.

” We likewise gave them instructions to create a backup plan, which would include deploying pump or water vehicles and regularly inspecting irrigation building equipment.”

According to one plan under the Royal Irrigation Office 9, Khlong Saphan will be pumped daily with at least 470 000 cu / m of water to the reservoir.

With this, he said, the reservoir currently has 67 % capacity and 196 million cu / m of water.

The company’s chairman, Tinnakorn Lhualon, stated that it started pumping liquid yesterday and will keep doing so through the upcoming rainy season.

To further create the plan, he added, regular discussions will also be held with the Keyman Water War Room and the Prasae Joint Management Committee for Irrigation.
