For assaulting social advocate Srisuwan Janya, Thotsaphon Thananonsophonkul, 67, has been given a six-month sentence in prison and an excellent of 20,000 Baht. The sentence was put on hold for a month.
Following Don Muang Kwaeng Court’s decision on Tuesday, Mr. Srisuwan updated his Facebook accounts on Thursday.
On May 11, Thotsaphon struck the social activist in the mouth at the Election Commission’s Chaeng Watthana Road department, which is a part of the government building complex.
Prior to the attack, Mr. Srisuwan was speaking with the media about a problem about Pheu Thai’s 10,000-baht digital wallet coverage.
Before lawyers sued Thotsaphon with Don Muang Kwaeng Court under Sections 91, 295 and 393 of the Criminal Code, Mr. Srisuwan reportedly complained to Thung Song Hong Police about him for physical abuse and libel.
According to Mr. Srisuwan, the jury found Thotsaphon innocent of a misdemeanor and violating Sections 295 and 393 of the Criminal Code for causing physical harm to another.
The court decided to punish the defendant in accordance with Section 91 and sentenced him to six months in prison and a fine of 20,000 baht after he committed some offenses.
Thotsaphon’s prison sentence was suspended for a year by the judge in response to his statement.
According to Sections 29 and 30 of the Criminal Code, failure to pay the good will result in punishment.
Additionally, until the payment is finished, Thotsaphon must pay Mr. Srisuwan compensation in the amount of 50, 420 baht, with a 5 % interest rate each year.
On his Facebook page, Mr. Srisuwan wrote,” This may serve as a training for those who break the law.”
