In response to a statement made by his child Liz Cheney this year, Republican former vice president Dick Cheney said Friday that he would support Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris over Republican former president Donald Trump in the Nov. 5 US elections.
In a conversation the following week, Mr. Trump and Ms. Harris will square off in a tight competition for the Nov. 5 vote.
Some Republicans are upset that Mr. Trump has a power over their party and that he has recently endorsed Ms. Harris, including lots of past George W. Bush and George W. Bush staff.
From 2001 to 2009, Mr. Cheney served as vice president under GOP President George W. Bush. He has received condemnation from human rights organizations over the years because he was heavily involved in the planning of the US wars in Afghanistan and Iraq.
There has never been a person in our nation’s 248-year story who poses a greater risk to our nation than Donald Trump, he said on Friday.
He added:” As people, we each have a duty to put state above politics to support our Constitution. I will be casting my voting for Vice President Kamala Harris because of this.
In a social media post on Friday, Mr. Trump used the phrase “irrelevant RINO” to refer to Republicans who are not faithful to him, which stands for” Republicans in Name Simply.”
However, more than 90 business professionals, including the chief executives of Google and Chobani as well as the original CEOs of PepsiCo, Ford Motor Co and Yahoo!, even endorsed Ms Harris for the president in a text released on Friday.
More than 100 current and former law enforcement officers supported her, citing both her background as a counsel and her commitment to reducing gun crime.
The executives, who include the heads of the nation’s leading sports and investment companies, said they were convinced that the Democrat may continue to boost the economy and protect American politics.
Harris has a proven track record of supporting initiatives to encourage business expense in the US and enable American businesses to succeed in the global marketplace, they wrote.
She will continue to push for sensible and predictable laws that help the rule of law, balance, and a sound business environment, and she will make an effort to give each and every American the opportunity to realize their aspirations, they continued.
According to the email obtained by Reuters and first reported by CNBC, businessman Mark Cuban, past 21st Century Fox CEO James Murdoch, and Earvin” Magic” Johnson were among those backing the vice president.
