Re-entry fee waived for workers over Songkran

On arrival in Thailand, migrants from Cambodia, Laos, and Myanmar you return home to enjoy Songkran from April 1 through May 15. There is no need to pay a re-entry charge upon entry.

The National Committee on the Management of Immigrant Workers, led by Labour Minister Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, made the decision to waive the charge at a meeting of the group.

According to Mr. Phiphat, people who qualify may have documents with non-L-A visas and have them have until May 15. He added that couples who are qualified for a fee exemption must not be older than 18 years old.

The initiative aims to raise the confidence of migrant employees who want to enjoy Songkran with their families without having to pay a re-entry price, he said.

Somchai Morakotsriwan, producer- standard of the Department of Employment, said that immigrant workers are never required to apply for a re- access permit during that period.

He continued, they must apply for a re-entry force if they want to travel back to Thailand after May 15 because that is when their stay may be suspended.

According to Mr. Somchai, the Interior Ministry and the Immigration Bureau will prepare an announcement and let migrant employees and their employers know about the new plan while the Department of Employment may send the request to the case for authorization.

In the meantime, Mr. Phiphat urged fans of Thai boxing’s” Muay Thai” to submit an application for certificates with the Department of Skill Development ( DSD ). He stated that Muay Thai is one of the professions with proven ability standards, and that those interested in teaching Thai fighting, which is being promoted as a cultural goods, can apply for DSD documentation.
