NARATHIWAT: An army ranger was wiped out and seven cop and two civilians injured by explosive device explosions in a rubberized plantation in Sungai Padi district of this southern border state on Monday early morning, police said.
The first explosion occurred about six. 30am in a rubber plantation about five hundred metres from Khok Kai village within tambon To Deng.
A local woman, rubber tapper Pathum Nakthong, has been seriously injured.
Police, rangers and an explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) team were sent to the plantation.
Regarding 7. 40am, while they were clearing the region, another bomb erupted in the same planting, about 200 metres from the first.
M/Sgt Somchai Daeng-ngoen, of Ranger Company 4818, had been killed in the 2nd blast.
Eight others had been injured:
– Pol Luxury touring Col Wasan Panphot, deputy chief of Sungai Padi police;
– Pol Sgt Maj Veenat Pradittham, driver of the Sungai Padi deputy police key;
: Pol Capt Sathaban Suwannakan, an EOD officer from Edge Patrol Police Organization 447;
– Pol Capt Yuthaphum Samanwon, a good EOD officer through BPP Company 447;
– Pol Sr Sgt Maj Amornthep Thongluang, an EOD official from BPP Organization 447;
– Pol Sr Sgt Maj Prapan Phumnual, an EOD officer from BPP Company 447;
– Pol Sgt Maj Panuwat Compunut, an EOD officer from BPP Company 447; and
: Vinai Noosawat, a villager.
