Quick probe ordered into scaffolding collapse on Rama II Road

The Department of Highways ‘ director-general has mandated that a quick research be launched into the Sunday afternoon decline of scaffolding onto Rama II Road in Samut Sakhon state.

Sarawut Songsivilai, the highways director-general, said that apart from the investigation, he also ordered officials to check and secure all steel scaffolding along the elevated Motorway 82 ( M82 ) project.

The elevated road will be constructed from Bangkok via Samut Sakhon and Samut Songkhram to Ratchaburi province, which is 81 kilometers above Rama II Road ( Highway 35 ).

According to Mr Sarawut, the decline of the 14-metre-high crane happened on the Bang Khunthian-Ban Phaeo part of the increased road initiative in tambon Mahachai of Muang area, Samut Sakhon, at 3. 17pm on Sunday. At the 27th, the scaffold fell on the Bangkok-bound area. 5 kilometre symbol on Rama II Highway, but nobody was injured.

At 3 o’clock, authorities cleared the dust and reopened the bridge section. 45pm. Mr. Sarawut hoped that the research would be completed as soon as possible.

Design along the Rama II Highway, which has been ongoing for decades, was put on hold from April 11 to April 17 to make room for travelers during the Songkran Thai New Year festival. Mr Sarawut apologised for the decline.

Although Rama II Road is a major thoroughfare in the south, drivers have expressed concern for safety as a result of many architectural collapses along the artery.

In July 2022 ,    a U-turn gate frame fell in Samut Sakhon. In May next month a  concrete block fell, killing a contractor. One building worker was killed and another was hurt when a crane slammed into them in January.

Earlier Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin warned  contractors to maintain security while building the increased motorway.
