Following a complaint from Queensland MP Brittany Lauga that she had been drugged and sexually assaulted, officers in Australia have launched an investigation.
She was attacked on a day out in her Yeppoon district, according to the secretary minister for wellbeing.
” This could have happened to anyone and tragically, it does happen to many of us”, she said.
Following new incidents of violence against women, protests have taken position in response to the event.
Ms Lauga, 37, went to a police station and then to doctor on 28 April.
In a statement posted on social media, she wrote that testing at the hospital revealed medications in her body that she did not take, adding that the latter had” significantly” had had an impact on her.
Officers from the Queensland Police Service ( QPS) confirmed that they were looking into a sexual assault complaint involving a Sunday incident in Yeppoon.
Other people allegedly contacted Ms. Lauga after reporting that she had been drugged the same night.
She said,” We should be able to enjoy socializing in our village without the risk of being drugged or assaulted,” adding that she needed time to “physically and physically heal.”
No more reports have been made in the same area, according to the police, but they are urging anyone with information or experience with similar incidents to call them.
The QPS takes all reviews of drink rising really, and it frequently looks into them case by situation, and frequently with other crimes like sexual assault, they said.
Ms. Lauga was first elected to the couch of Keppel in 2015 after serving in congress for almost ten years.
Queensland Housing Minister Meaghan Scanlon called the allegations” disturbing” and “horrifying”, American media reported.
” Brittany is a partner, she is a companion, she is a younger person in the Queensland congress and these are actually surprising things to read”, Mr Scanlon said.
” Fraudulently, domestically, home, and sexually violent people are unacceptable. Our country will continue to make every effort to prevent violence and guard women.
In recent months, there has been a lot of gender-based murder in Australia.
In a Sydney shopping center in April, Joel Cuachi fatally stabbed six individuals.
The New South Wales authorities director told ABC News that it was “obvious” that he was focusing on hurting people in five of the victims, which included five people.
In response to the attack, there were a number of demonstrations held, with protesters calling for stricter laws to be passed and gender-based murder to be declared a national emergency.
So far this year, there have been at least four fatal fatalities in the nation.
