Quakes shake the North

People in higher northern provinces sensed tremors from 65 earthquakes centred in Myanmar on Thursday night, which included three shocks exceeding magnitude 5.

The Earthquake Statement Division of the Meteorological Department said the particular earthquakes started at 11. 40pm using a 5. 1 magnitude Richter-scale quake taking place four kilometres subterranean in Myanmar, about 80km northeast of Mae Sai area of Chiang Rai.

In 12. 07am last night morning, another surprise of magnitude six. 4 was recorded three kilometres underground at a point 87km southwest of Mae Sai.

A 5. 3-magnitude earthquake followed, detected four kilometres underground some 82km northeast of Mae Sai at 5. 38am.

The tremors were felt in parts of Chiang Rai, Phayao and Chiang Mai provinces.

People within the affected areas documented their experiences to the Earthquake Observation Division. Residents in Mae Sai, Muang plus Chiang Khong zones of Chiang Rai and Muang area of Chiang Mai said their houses shook for a few secs. The total of sixty-five shocks lasted until 10. 31am recently.

The particular Meteorological Department continues to monitor the situation. No injuries have been documented in Thailand.
