According to India, eight former American naval commanders who were previously given death sentences in Qatar today face prison terms of “varying” lengths.

The people have 60 days to contest their prison term. A judge in Qatar had reduced their death sentences next month.

The particular charges against the guys have not been made public by Qatar or India.

However, the men were accused of spying for Israel, according to Financial Times and Reuters, which cited unnamed solutions.

Israel, Qatar, and India have all made no comments on this. Additionally, the court’s rulings in the subject have not been made public. India has been making comments about the key developments in the case, which was seen as a check for the government’s political skills.

The court order modifying the men’s death sentences is now available to their legal team, according to Indian Foreign Ministry spokesman Randhir Jaiswal, who also added that it is a” personal record.”

He added that they have 60 days to appeal the decision in the Court of Cassation, Qatar’s highest court, adding that” What we can show you, affirm to you is that the death sentence has now been converted into varying jail sentences for the eight Indian immigrants.” He omitted to mention the amount of the prison term.

He said,” It is now up to the legal team to determine the next course of action.”

India expressed its “deep shock” at the men’s dying sentences by the Court of First Instance in Qatar in October 2023.

The foreign ministry after appealed the word after stating that it would look into all legitimate alternatives.

The men’s imprisonment had garnered front-page news in India in 2022.

The eight men have been identified by the American authorities in a statement as working for the private company Al Dahra, but it has been widely reported that they were once Indian Navy personnel.

They were referred to as “ex-servicemen” of the nation by Foreign Minister S Jaishankar in congress. Some of the men’s people have also provided nearby media with confirmation of their identities and backgrounds in the Navy.
