Crisis action as the floods wreak havoc

MAE HONG SON: In the Muang and Pai regions of this north boundary province, flash floods and landslides have caused damage to people services, homes, farms, and tourist destinations.
Chettha Mosikarat, the government of Mae Hong Son, stated yesterday that he has given leaders instructions to assess the damage and help those in the affected areas.
Mr. Chettha stated that issues involving settlement also needed to be handled.
He claimed that two well-known tourist destinations, Tham Pla Cave and Su Tong Pae Bridge in the Muang area, as well as homes, rice fields, and various farm vegetables, had been damaged.
The tourist high season is approaching, he said, so the visitor areas need to be restored.
According to Mr. Chettha, after many days of heavy rains, the flooding and landslides began around 10 p.m. on Friday.
According to the provincial office of disaster protection and mitigation, a flash storm struck 373 homes in the Muang area at Ban Huay Pha in tambon hawa, home to 925 people.
One girl passed away while riding a bicycle home after being swept aside by flood waters.
Mudslides even destroyed two classrooms and six homes.
Overflows from the Mae Sa Nga and Maa Sa Nugi channels flooded 38 homes, 152 people, and land at Ban Mok Cham Pae in the tambon community. Numerous energy poles were knocked over.
Ban Kung Mai Sak and four settlements in tambon Pha Bong, which affected about 535 homes and 1,400 people, were likewise severely impacted.
Flash floods that destroyed routes and land crops affected 2,000 residents of the Pai district’s villages of Moo 5 and Mo 11, respectively.
Heavy rain has fallen in the regions of Uttaradit, Ubon Ratchathani, Lop Buri; Trat; Trang; and Kanchanaburi, according to Surasee Kittimonthon, deputy director of the National Water Command Center and secretary-general.
He issued a warning that residents of 20 regions, including Chiang Rai, Phetchabun, Bung Kan, Chon Buri, Rayong, Chanthaburi, Trat, Kanchanaburi; Ranong; Mae Hong Son; Tak; Lampang; Phrae; Nan; Phayao; Uttaradit; Pyitsanulok; Uthai Thani; and Phang-nga, should be on high alert for potential display storms in the coming days.
