Primary 1 registration: 33 schools oversubscribed in Phase 2A

Stage 2A is for kids whose parent or sibling is a former student of the main school, including those who joined as alumni. It is also for children whose parent is a staff member at the college, or a member of the school advisory or management committee.

Children who visited a MOE kindergarten under the purview associated with and located within the primary school may also apply under Phase 2A.

One of the most oversubscribed primary college in Phase 2A this year was Pei Hwa Presbyterian, with 112 applicants just for 44 spots. Gongshang Primary School received 116 applications for 59 vacancies, while Rosyth received 113 applications for 73 spaces.

MODIFICATIONS TO REGISTRATION PHYSICAL EXERCISE

Under the new changes to the Principal 1 registration physical exercise, 40 places is going to be reserved in Phase 2C in every primary school, upward from 20 places previously.

Stage 2B will still have 20 areas. That means 60 spaces have been set aside for that later phases associated with 2B and 2C.

Phase 2A(1) and 2A(2) were  combined to ensure that all Phase 2A(2) applicants could carry on and have a chance to sign up under Phase 2A, said MOE upon its website.

Last year, five colleges no longer had spaces after Phase 2A (1).

“The increase in reserved locations for Phase 2C will result in fewer locations in earlier stages. If we continue to maintain the differentiation of concern between Phase 2A(1) and Phase 2A(2) registrants, we expect that several colleges would end up with fairly few or even no places left with regard to Phase 2A(2) registrants, ” the website read through.

It would also much better achieve the objective of giving priority admission to get MOE kindergarten children, who were previously eligible only in Phase 2A(2), added MOE.

Just for schools that still have spaces after Phase 2A, one-third of the remaining vacancies is going to be allocated to Phase 2B and two-thirds in order to Phase 2C.

All of children registering below Phase 1, that is for children that have a sibling within the school, are assured a space. Phase one registration closed on Jun 30.
