According to Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra, efforts are being made to handle a number of issues in the area province, making Phuket a premium tourist destination.

She made the remarks on Thursday while she was traveling to the southwestern province to address issues involving commerce, storm prevention, infrastructure development, and traffic management.

At a conference attended by condition organizations and the private sector, Ms. Paetongtarn claimed that nearly one-quarter of foreign visitors to Thailand travel to Phuket, with several choosing to go there instead of Bangkok.

The prime minister stated that the government wants to concentrate on making the state a top tourist destination where saving is anticipated to rise.

” We also want to encourage Phuket as a popular tourist destination and Thailand as a venue for major events,” she said.

She instructed companies to find ways to ease the region’s tourism industry’s congestion and accelerate development projects aimed at easing the big customers.

A new way from Bang Muang Mai to the airport is included in the proposals for an extra visitors lane on Highway No. 4027, an increased road building initiative at the intersection of Highways No. 4022 and 4025, as well as a review of the new Sarasin Bridge.

Ms. Paetongtarn emphasized the need for authorities to take action against criminals and influential individuals operating on the island to protect public health, and that Phuket’s garbage issue should also be addressed.

She suggested that a plan been launched to promote the neighborhood’s garbage sorting and recycling.

Thaneth Tantipiriyakij, chairman of the Phuket Tourist Association, welcomed the government’s program.

He claimed that the plan calls for funding from the government’s budget for sustainable tourism initiatives as well as facilities development projects in the island state.

He claimed that the prime minister’s attend provided a great opportunity for the private business to make project suggestions to the authorities for consideration.

According to Mr. Thaneth, the authorities views Phuket as a significant tourist destination and that the commerce sector is the main driver of economic growth.

According to federal official Jirayu Houngsub, more than 230, 000 travelers, both Thais and immigrants, visited Phuket between Dec 28, 2024 and Jan 1, generating at least 8 billion ringgit in profits.

This resulted in a hotel occupancy rate of over 80 %.
